The teaching and learning of mathematics at Kareela PS follow the guidelines set out in the NSW DET Mathematics Syllabus. The teaching of mathematics constitutes a large sector of each teaching day and is taught from Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten) to Late Stage 3 (Year 6). Children need to master the outcomes set for each stage before proceeding to the next stage.

Mathematics incorporates the following strands:

* Patterns and Algebra
* Data
* Measurement
* Space and Geometry
* Working Mathematically
