The teaching and learning of English at Kareela PS follow the guidelines set out in the NSW DET English Syllabus. The teaching of English constitutes a large sector of each teaching day and is taught from Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten) to Late Stage 3 (Year 6). Children need to master the outcomes set for each stage before progressing to the next stage.
English incorporates the following strands:
* Talking and Listening;
* Reading; and
* Writing- including Producing Texts, Grammar and Punctuation, Spelling, Handwriting, Using Computers.
The teaching staff regularly participates in professional learning in English at the school and regional level.
Cooperative planning sessions are held each term. At these sessions members of staff plan together in stage teams, discuss ideas, share resources and teaching methods and assess student work samples and assessment tasks.
The students at Kareela PS receive the best possible teaching in English and results in the NAPLAN and previously in the BST are consistently above state and Sutherland area averages.For more information about the outcomes in each stage of English, click on the link below:
